Why visit Zogbodomey?
Zogbodomey is a town, arrondissement, and commune in Zou Department, south-western Benin. The commune covers roughly 600–825 km² (sources vary) and had about 92,900 residents at the 2013 census, up from about 72,300 in 2002. It is divided into 11 arrondissements — Akiza, Avlamè, Cana I, Cana II, Domè, Koussoukpa, Kpokissa, Massi, Tanwé-Hessou, Zoukou, and Zogbodomey — containing 6 urban quarters and 59 villages. The economy rests on agriculture, livestock, trade, and agro-food processing.
Zogbodomey's most significant heritage site is Cana (in the Cana I and Cana II arrondissements), a place regarded as holy in the Kingdom of Dahomey: from King Agadja through King Glèlè, each Dahomey monarch built a secondary residence there, and it was traditionally where a new sovereign's accession was formally consecrated. The remains of the palaces of Kings Agadja, Tégbéssou, Kpingla, Agonglo, Guézo, and Glèlè lie in the Cana district, complementing the main UNESCO-listed Royal Palaces of Abomey (about 20 km away) as part of the same royal heritage landscape.

What are the things to do?
- Royal palace remains of Cana — Ruins and remains of the secondary Dahomey royal residences built by Kings Agadja, Tégbéssou, Kpingla, Agonglo, Guézo, and Glèlè, in the Cana I/Cana II arrondissements; the site was traditionally the place where a new Dahomey king's reign was ritually consecrated.
Visiting the Cana royal palace remains is Zogbodomey's standout activity; otherwise, market days and walks through the surrounding farmland are typical for a commune of this kind.
