Djidja

Djidja (also known locally as Djomla) is a town, arrondissement, and commune in Zou Department, about 24 km northeast of Abomey and roughly 163 km from Cotonou. It is the largest commune in Zou by area, covering about 2,184 km², and had a population of around 123,500 at the 2013 census, spread across 12 arrondissements (Djidja-centre, Agondji, Agouna, Dan, Dohoinmè, Gobé, Oungbègamè, Monsourou, Mougnon, Outo, Setto, and Zoukon) and 75 villages and city quarters. It borders Agbangnizoun to the south. Djidja functions as an agricultural granary for the Zou department and part of southern Benin, with farming as the dominant livelihood.

Djidja is reached by road from Abomey (about 24 km) and Bohicon, the department's main transport hub. Shared bush taxis and zemidjan (motorcycle taxis) cover the route; schedules and fares are informal and not centrally published.
