Ouinhi

Ouinhi is a town, arrondissement, and commune in Zou Department, southern Benin, covering about 483 km² with a population of around 59,400 at the 2013 census. It lies in the Ouémé River floodplain and is divided into four arrondissements — Ouinhi, Dasso, Sagon, and Tohouè — with roughly 40 villages and urban quarters. It is bounded by Zagnanado to the northwest, Zogbodomey to the southwest, Bonou to the south, and Adja-Ouèrè to the east. Agriculture is the backbone of the local economy: rice (notably grown in the bas-fonds, the low-lying floodplain), maize, manioc, peanut, yam, and sweet potato are the main food crops, alongside floodplain fishing.

Ouinhi is reached by road from Bohicon, the department's main transport hub. Shared bush taxis and zemidjan (motorcycle taxis) cover the route; schedules and fares are informal and not centrally published, and rural roads through the floodplain can be difficult in the rainy season.

Walks through the floodplain villages and observing rice cultivation and fishing are the main activities for a rural commune of this kind.
