Why visit Novalukoml?

Novalukoml (Новалукомль) is a small industrial town of about 13,000 people in Viciebskaja voblasć, built in the 1960s to serve the Lukoml Power Station (Лукомльская ГРЭС), one of the largest thermal power plants in Belarus. The town is located on the shores of Lake Lukoml (Лукомльскае возера), a large artificial cooling reservoir for the power station. Novalukoml is a classic Soviet-era company town with a planned layout, broad avenues, and a distinct industrial character. The climate is continental: warm summers (18–24°C) and cold winters (−5 to −10°C).

How do you get there?

By Plane

Vitebsk Airport (VTB) is about 110 km northeast. Minsk National Airport (MSQ) is 160 km southwest.

By Train

Novalukoml has a railway station on the Orsha–Lepel line, with trains from Orsha (1.5 hr, BYN 5–7).

By Car / Road

From Minsk, take the M3 north, then turn east toward Novalukoml. About 160 km (2 hr). Roads are fair. Buses from Minsk run 2–3 times daily (3 hr, BYN 12).

The town is walkable.
