Rahachow

Homieĺskaja voblasć, Belarus

Why visit Rahachow?

Rahachow (Belarusian: Rahačoŭ; Russian: Rogachev) is a small town of about 33,000 at the confluence of the Drut and Dnieper rivers in northern Homieĺskaja voblasć. First chronicled in 1142, it's an old Dnieper river-trading and ferry town whose modest pre-modern centre survived World War II in part and is anchored by a fine Cathedral of St Alexander Nevsky and the wooded Boldin Hill with sweeping river views.

The town is famous nationally for the Rahachoŭ Milk Combine — its sweetened condensed milk is sold across Belarus and Russia in the iconic blue-and-white tin. A pleasant half-day stop on a Dnieper-side itinerary or as a side trip from Zhlobin.

Climate is continental; best visited late spring through autumn.
