Why visit Buda-Kashalyova?
Buda-Kashalyova is a town of around 8,500 people on the Dnieper plain in northern Homielskaja voblasć, and the administrative center of Buda-Kashalyova District. The settlement traces back to two older villages: Koshelevo, first recorded in the 16th century under the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and Buda, mentioned in chronicles from the 1820s under the Russian Empire's Mogilev Governorate; the combined town had only around 500 residents as recently as the 1890s. It was under German occupation from August 1941 to November 1943 during the Second World War, gained urban-village status in 1938, and was granted full city status in 1971. Today it is a modest district center serving the surrounding agricultural area.
