Kalinkavichy
Homieĺskaja voblasć, Belarus
Why visit Kalinkavichy?
Kalinkavichy (Belarusian: Kalinkavičy) is a town of about 38,000 in the south of Homieĺskaja voblasć, set on the edge of the Polesye lowlands about 20 km north of Mazyr. The town owes its existence and shape to the railway: it grew up around the junction where the Brest–Gomel and Gomel–Kalinkavičy–Pinsk lines meet, and it remains one of the busiest interchange stations in southern Belarus. Most travellers experience Kalinkavichy as a quick stop between trains, but the modest centre, a couple of Orthodox churches, and the small district museum are worth an hour while changing.
Climate is continental, mild summers; best visited late spring through autumn.
