Arvana

Arvana is a remote mountain village in the Yardımlı District of southern Azerbaijan, located in the Talysh Mountains along the Iranian border. It is a traditional rural settlement, the kind of place where daily life has changed little over generations, centred on livestock grazing, small-scale farming, and tea cultivation on the steep hillsides.

The climate is humid subtropical with warm summers and mild winters. The mountain setting provides cool evenings even in summer.

Arvana is one of the most remote settlements in the district, with minimal infrastructure. It appeals to adventurous travellers interested in the traditional mountain culture of the Talysh region.

By Plane

The nearest airport is Lankaran International Airport (LN), about 90 km north-east (2 hours by car).

By Car / Road

Arvana is reached via mountain roads from Yardimli, about 20 km south. The road is narrow and winding; a 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended.

The village is walkable. Few roads exist beyond the village.

• Mountain scenery – the Talysh Mountains rise steeply around Arvana, with deep forested valleys.

• Iranian border area – the border runs through the mountains south of the village.

• Mountain trekking – the hills around Arvana offer challenging terrain for experienced hikers.

• Visit Yardimli – the district centre, 20 km north, with basic amenities.

Tea is the local staple. Bring bottled water from Yardimli.

• Yardimli (20 km north, 30 min) – district centre with museum and market.
• Deman (12 km north-east, 15 min) – another mountain village in the Talysh range.
• Avash (8 km north, 10 min) – small village en route to Yardimli.
• Lankaran (90 km north-east, 2 h) – the Talysh region's main city with Caspian beaches.
