Masallı Rayon is a district in southern Azerbaijan, straddling the transition zone between the Kura-Araz lowland and the Talysh Mountains. The landscape varies from flat agricultural land in the north to forested foothills in the south, creating a diverse environment that supports both farming and nature tourism.
The district capital, Masallı, is a regional centre with a lively bazaar, tree-lined streets, and a mild climate influenced by the nearby mountains. The wider district includes the town of Boradigah, traditional villages, and forested areas that serve as gateways to the Talysh highlands. The economy is based on agriculture (rice, tea, citrus, tobacco) and animal husbandry.
Climate is subtropical in the foothills and semi-arid in the lowlands: summers are hot (28–35 °C), winters are mild (3–10 °C), and rainfall is moderate, higher in the mountain areas.
When is the best time to visit?
April through June and September through November are ideal, with comfortable temperatures and green landscapes. Summer is hot but manageable. Winter is mild. The tea and citrus harvest seasons (October–December) are interesting times to visit.
