Jafarli is a small village in the Biləsuvar district of southeastern Azerbaijan, located approximately 20 km southwest of the district capital Bilasuvar, near the Iranian border. The village lies in the flat expanses of the Mugan Plain, an important agricultural region known for cotton, grain, and livestock. Jafarli is a quiet farming community well off any tourist route.

The climate is semi-arid: very hot summers (35–40 °C), mild winters (2–8 °C), and low annual rainfall. Spring and autumn are the only comfortable seasons for visiting.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Bakı is about 200 km northeast. Travel to Bilasuvar first (bus or taxi), then onward to Jafarli.

By Train

The nearest station is Salyan, 80 km north. From Salyan, a taxi to Jafarli via Bilasuvar costs 20–30 AZN.

By Car / Road

From Bilasuvar, drive southwest on the local road toward the Iranian border. The distance is about 20 km, and a taxi costs 10–15 AZN.

Jafarli is a tiny village — 20 minutes of walking covers it entirely. For longer trips, taxis from Bilasuvar are the only practical option.

What are the things to do?

  • Mugan Plain Landscape — Endless flat farmland stretching to the horizon, with occasional poplar windbreaks and irrigation channels.

  • Village Farmsteads — Traditional courtyard houses with livestock pens, haystacks, and vegetable gardens.

  • Walk or cycle the farm roads for a genuine experience of the Azerbaijani rural south.

  • Visit the Iranian border area (approximately 8 km southwest), with the permission of local authorities — the countryside near the frontier has a distinctive, remote character.
