Kolani is a small village in the Bərdə district of central Azerbaijan, located approximately 20 km southeast of Barda town. Set in the flat, fertile Kura-Araz lowlands, it is an agricultural settlement where most residents work in crop farming and livestock. The village has a quiet, traditional character and is well off the tourist trail.

The climate is continental: hot summers (32–38 °C) and cool winters (0–8 °C). Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) offer the most pleasant conditions for visiting.

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest airports are Ganja (GNJ, 130 km west) and Bakı (GYD, 270 km east). From either, travel to Barda (bus or taxi), then onward to Kolani.

By Train

Yevlax station, 40 km north, is the nearest rail connection. A taxi from Yevlax to Kolani costs 20–25 AZN.

By Car / Road

From Barda, follow the road southeast toward Beyləqan, then turn onto local roads. The drive is about 20 km and 25 minutes. A taxi from Barda costs 10–15 AZN.

Kolani is small and walkable. For travel beyond the village, a taxi from Barda is the most reliable option.

What are the things to do?

  • Rural Kura-Araz Landscape — The surrounding plains stretch to the horizon, with cotton fields, canals, and occasional poplar windbreaks defining the scenery.

  • Traditional Village Architecture — Kolani's houses are typical of the region: single-storey stone-brick homes with corrugated metal roofs and walled courtyards.

  • Experience daily village life — observe or participate in farming activities (by arrangement through a homestay).

  • Walk or cycle the network of irrigation canal roads that criss-cross the district.
