Why visit Aghsu?
Aghsu (Ağsu) is the administrative centre of Ağsu Rayon in central Azerbaijan, situated on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus foothills. The city has a population of around 20,000 and serves as an agricultural and administrative hub for the surrounding rayon, which is known for grain cultivation, viticulture, and sericulture (silk production).
The area has a long history, with evidence of habitation dating to antiquity. The region was part of the Shirvan Khanate in the medieval period. Aghsu sits at an elevation of approximately 400 metres, giving it a slightly cooler climate than the lowland plain to the north.
The climate is moderate continental. Summers are warm (26–33 °C), winters are cool (−1–6 °C). Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are the best times to visit, with pleasant temperatures and green landscapes.
