Why visit?

Escaldes-Engordany is a parish located in the southern-central region of Andorra, directly adjacent to the capital parish of Andorra la Vella. The two parishes form a continuous urban area along the valley of the Valira river. Escaldes-Engordany is famous for its natural thermal springs, which have shaped the history, culture, and economy of the area, making it a prominent wellness and health tourism destination in Europe.

The parish comprises several distinct neighborhoods and hamlets, including the main urban center of Escaldes, the historic hillside settlement of Engordany, the high-altitude village of Engolasters, and the quiet residential areas of Els Vilars and El Fener. The southern part of the parish extends into the stunning Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley, a pristine alpine landscape that is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its preservation of traditional pastoral lifeways.

When is the best time to visit?

The parish is a year-round destination. The winter months (December to March) are ideal for winter sports, with visitors staying in the parish to access the Grandvalira ski resort. The summer months (June to September) are perfect for hiking in the Madriu Valley and exploring the high-altitude trails around Lake Engolasters.

Major events include the Festa Major d'Escaldes-Engordany in late July, which features concerts, traditional dances, and street markets. The parish also hosts jazz festivals and temporary art exhibitions in its cultural centers during the summer.

How do you get around?

The main urban areas of Escaldes and Engordany are highly walkable and seamlessly integrated with Andorra la Vella. For local transit, the municipal bus system and national lines (L1, L2, L4) run frequently through the main avenue, Avinguda Carlemany.

For high-altitude destinations such as Engolasters or the trailheads of the Madriu Valley, private cars, taxis, or local seasonal shuttles are required. Winding mountain roads connect the valley floor to the upper settlements.
