Sidi Khouiled
Ouargla, Algeria
Why visit Sidi Khouiled?
Sidi Khouiled is a town and commune in Ouargla Province in the Algerian Sahara, lying just east of the provincial capital, Ouargla, within the same oasis basin. Like its neighbours, it is a settled oasis community shaped by date cultivation and by the broader economy of this petroleum-rich province.
The town takes its name in the traditional Saharan fashion, with "Sidi" denoting a local saint or revered figure, a common pattern across North African place names. It is a quiet oasis settlement rather than a tourist destination in its own right, part of the cluster of communes that surround Ouargla.
The climate is that of the deep Sahara: extreme heat in summer, with daytime temperatures regularly above 40°C from June through September, and far milder conditions in the cooler months from November to March, when nights can be cold. Winter is by far the most comfortable time to visit the region.
