Hassi Ben Abdellah
Ouargla, Algeria
Why visit Hassi Ben Abdellah?
Hassi Ben Abdellah is a town and commune in Ouargla Province in the Algerian Sahara, set in the agricultural belt of the Ouargla oasis basin a short distance from the provincial capital. Its name reflects its origin as a desert well ("hassi"), and the community is rooted in oasis farming, including date cultivation, in an area that has seen agricultural development in the surrounding desert.
The town is a working oasis and agricultural settlement rather than a tourist hub. It shares the Saharan character of the wider Ouargla region — palm groves, irrigated gardens, and a hot desert setting — and is most relevant to travellers as part of the broader oasis landscape around Ouargla.
The climate is harshly hot in summer, with daytime temperatures often above 40°C from June through September, and considerably more comfortable in the cooler months from November to March, when nights can be cold. Winter is the best time to visit the region.
