Why visit Mbarara?

Mbarara is the largest city in western Uganda and the commercial and administrative capital of the Ankole sub-region. Located approximately 270 km south-west of Kampala on the main highway to Rwanda and the DRC, Mbarara is a vital transit hub for travellers heading to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi, Lake Mburo, and the safari circuit. The city is known for its beautiful rolling hills, long-horned Ankole cattle, and the historic Ankole kingdom.

The Banyankole people are the dominant ethnic group, and Runyankore is the primary local language. Mbarara has a bustling urban atmosphere with a growing economy driven by trade, education (Mbarara University), and tourism.
