Gulsehir
Nevşehir, Turkey
About Gulsehir
Gülşehir is a town in Nevşehir Province, Cappadocia, located about 20 km west of Nevşehir city. The name means "rose city" in Turkish. With a population of around 10,000, it is quieter than Göreme or Ürgüp but rich in rock-cut architecture, including the remarkable St. Jean (John) Church. The town sits on the Kızılırmak River plain at the edge of the Cappadocian volcanic landscape.
The climate is continental with hot summers and cold winters. Spring and autumn are the best times to visit. Gülşehir is a good alternative for travellers seeking a less crowded Cappadocian experience.
