Yalvac

Isparta, Turkey

Why visit Yalvac?

Yalvaç is a town in eastern Isparta Province and the seat of Yalvaç District (area 1,402 km², population around 45,900 as of 2022; the town itself has around 22,500 residents). It is an important historical centre: the ruins of Antioch of Pisidia lie about 1 km northeast of the town centre. Founded in the Hellenistic period and refounded as a Roman colony by Augustus around 25–23 BC (settled largely by veterans of Legio V Gallica), the city was buried and largely forgotten until 20th-century excavations; Yalvaç Museum, built in the early 1960s, now holds roughly 22,000 artefacts, many from the Antioch excavations. The town is also known for its historic houses and the Sultan Dağları mountain scenery.
