Samsat

Samsat is a small town in Adıyaman Province on the banks of the Atatürk Reservoir. The modern town was relocated after the construction of the Atatürk Dam flooded the original historic settlement — ancient Samosata, the capital of the Commagene Kingdom before it moved to Arsemia. The original Samosata now lies beneath the reservoir waters.

Samsat has a hot, dry summer climate with mild winters.

Adıyaman Airport (ADF IATA) is about 50 km west. Taxis and shuttle services from Adıyaman.

By Car / Road

Samsat is about 45 minutes southeast of Adıyaman city via the D-360. Minibuses run from Adıyaman.

The town is compact and walkable.
