Why visit Ramboda?

Ramboda is a small town in the Nuwara Eliya District of Central Province, located about 20 km west of Nuwara Eliya on the A5 highway. It sits at an elevation of 1,100 m and is best known for Ramboda Falls, a stunning 109-m-high waterfall that is one of Sri Lanka's most photographed natural attractions. The town is surrounded by tea plantations and misty mountains.

Ramboda is a popular stop for travellers on the Kandy–Nuwara Eliya route. The Ramboda Pass area offers spectacular mountain views. The climate is cool and misty year-round, with temperatures 15–22°C. Best visited December–April.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB IATA) is 160 km northwest. Taxi takes 4 hours (Rs 12,000–16,000).

By Train

Ramboda Railway Station is on the scenic Colombo–Badulla line, between Hatton and Nanu Oya. Trains from Colombo Fort take about 4.5 hours (Rs 400–1,500).

By Car / Road

Ramboda is on the A5 highway, 20 km west of Nuwara Eliya and 80 km from Kandy. Buses from Kandy take 2–3 hours (Rs 200–350). Buses from Nuwara Eliya take 30 minutes.

Tuk-tuks. The waterfall is visible from the main road. For closer access, walk down the path from the highway.

What are the things to do?

Ramboda Falls — A 109-m multi-tiered waterfall cascading down a rock face, especially impressive during the rainy season. A viewing platform and path lead to the base. Tea Plantations — The surrounding hills are carpeted with tea gardens. Ramboda Pass — A scenic mountain pass with panoramic views. Victoria Golf Resort — A golf course with beautiful mountain scenery.
