Hatton

Central Province, Sri Lanka

Why visit Hatton?

Hatton is a town in the Nuwara Eliya District of Central Province, located in the heart of Sri Lanka's tea country at an elevation of 1,200 m. It is one of the most important centres for tea processing and distribution in Sri Lanka, surrounded by some of the country's finest tea estates including the famous St. Clair's, Kenilworth, and Braemar plantations.

Hatton is the main gateway for pilgrims climbing Adam's Peak (Sri Pada), the sacred 2,243-m mountain that attracts devotees from all four major religions. The climbing season runs from December to April. The town has a predominantly Tamil population, descendants of workers brought from India during British rule. The climate is cool and misty year-round, with temperatures 15–25°C. The best time to visit is January–April.
