Makira-Ulawa, Solomon Islands
Why visit Santa Catalina?
Santa Catalina Island (also known as Owariki) is a small raised coral island in Makira-Ulawa Province, Solomon Islands, located just east of Santa Ana Island off the northeastern tip of Makira. The island is smaller than its neighbour Santa Ana, with a raised limestone plateau surrounded by white sand beaches and fringing reefs. The island has a small population who speak the Owariki language and maintain a traditional subsistence lifestyle based on fishing and gardening. The surrounding waters are rich in marine life, with excellent snorkelling and diving opportunities. The climate is tropical, with hot and humid conditions year-round.
