Pout is a town and commune in the Thiès department of the Thiès region, on national route N2 between Dakar and Thiès (and onward to Saint-Louis), with a population of roughly 30,000 as of the 2023 census. Traditionally a Sereer-populated area, it grew rapidly with industrialization and became a full commune in 1990. Surrounded by forest, Pout sits in a fruit- and vegetable-growing area producing mangoes, mandarins, and oranges, and hosts industrial activity including agricultural-machinery fabrication, salt and cement production, and produce export.
