Semmé is a small commune in the Kanel department of Senegal's Matam region, near the border with Mauritania, in the middle valley of the Senegal River between Matam and Bakel, southwest of Waoundé. It became a commune in 1996. Its population grew from about 4,492 (2002) to roughly 5,573 (2007 estimate). Semmé is a border-crossing point: an official customs post opened here on 26 February 2008.
