Fatick, Senegal

Why visit Gossas?

Gossas is a town in the Fatick region of Senegal, roughly 170 km east of Dakar, and the capital of its own department covering about 1,243 km². It sits in the historic Kingdom of Sine's territory in the Sine-Saloum area, and was drawn into Senegal's colonial groundnut export economy in the early 20th century as the Dakar–Niger railway extended through the region's peanut-growing basin. Agriculture, especially groundnut farming, remains the department's main livelihood; as of the 2023 census the department had a population of about 123,000.
