Passy

Fatick, Senegal

Why visit Passy?

Passy is a commune in Senegal's Sine-Saloum area, part of the Foundiougne department in the Fatick region; it was raised to commune status in 1996. The village was founded in 1906 by Mamour Ngatane Touré, a religious teacher said to have chosen the site after a dream directed him east to land near a large-leaved taba tree, where he sought a peaceful place to teach the Quran to his talibés. Passy is described locally as a typical bush village of the Sine-Saloum, with an economy centred on the exchange of regional agricultural produce.
