Goree Island (Île de Gorée) is a UNESCO World Heritage site off the coast of Dakar, Senegal. It was the largest slave-trading centre on the African coast from the 15th to the 19th century. Today the island is a memorial to the Atlantic slave trade and a peaceful car-free community of colourful colonial houses, art galleries, and museums. How do you get there?

By Ferry

Regular ferries from the Dakar port (Gare Maritime) take 20 minutes. Tickets are about 5,200 CFA round trip for tourists.
