Cluj

Cluj County is centred on Cluj-Napoca, Romania's second-largest city and a hub for exploring Transylvania. Nearby Turda holds the Salina Turda salt mine, one of Europe's oldest (mined since at least the 11th century, with Roman-era origins), now developed into a tourist attraction with an underground amusement park and boating lake in its vast halls. The county's western reaches extend into the Apuseni Natural Park and the Țara Moților ("Land of the Moți") region, known for traditional rural life, the Scărișoara Ice Cave, and karst scenery.

May through October offers the mildest weather for exploring Cluj-Napoca and the Apuseni Mountains.

Local buses and minibuses connect the main towns within the county. For rural areas, a car is recommended.
