Why visit San Carlos?

San Carlos is a component city in eastern Pangasinan, at the foot of the Cordillera Central mountain range. It is known as the "Mango Capital of Pangasinan" for its sweet carabao mangoes. The city has a rural, agricultural character with about 205,000 residents, making it one of Pangasinan's largest cities. San Carlos is also a centre for the "onglo" or religious festivals.

How do you get there?

San Carlos is accessible by bus from Dagupan (30 min) and Manila (5 hours via Dagupan). By car, take the Manila–Dagupan route then turn east at Bayambang.

Tricycles and jeepneys. The city centre around the plaza is walkable.

What are the things to do?

  • San Carlos City Plaza — A well-maintained central park with a monument to national heroes.

  • San Carlos Cathedral (St. Dominic Parish) — A modern church with a beautiful altar and a statue of St. Dominic.

  • Mango Orchards — Several farms in the surrounding barangays offer mango-picking during the peak season (March–May).

  • Mango Festival (January) — Celebration of the city's mango industry with street dancing, a mango-eating contest, and trade fair.

Where to eat?

  • Leslie's Eatery (National Highway) — Filipino home cooking. Try the pakbet and crispy pata. Meals ₱150–300.
  • Mango-based desserts — Mango float, mango sticky rice, and fresh mango juice are widely available.

Where to drink?

Tap water is generally not recommended for drinking. Bottled water and soft drinks are available at sari-sari stores throughout the city. Fresh buko juice from street vendors.
