Jesus

Itapúa, Paraguay

Why visit Jesus?

Jesús (full name Jesús de Tavarangüé) is a small town in Itapúa department, home to one of the Jesuit mission ruins of Paraguay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in 1685 and moved to its current location in 1760, the mission was never completed but still impresses with its massive red sandstone walls and ornate carvings. It is less visited than nearby Trinidad but equally evocative. The climate is subtropical; best visited May–September.
