Loreto

Concepción, Paraguay

Why visit Loreto?

Loreto is a historic town on the eastern bank of the Río Paraguay in southern Concepción department, roughly 40 km south of the departmental capital. Originally a Jesuit reduction (mission) established in the 17th century, it retains a colonial character with a Franciscan church and a tranquil riverfront. The town is farming and fishing community, and its main draw for visitors is its relaxed atmosphere and riverside setting. The climate is tropical; the best time to visit is during the cooler dry months from May to September.

Loreto has a small port used by local fishermen and occasional river traffic. The weekly Aquidabán ferry passes by but does not always stop here; check locally for schedules.
