San Lázaro is a small rural community in eastern Concepción department, near the border with Amambay department. It lies in rolling cattle country, with a tiny population and minimal infrastructure. The area is known for its estancias (ranches) and open landscapes. Most travellers pass through en route between Concepción and Pedro Juan Caballero. The climate is tropical, with hot summers and mild winters; travel is most comfortable from May to September.

The nearest airports are Mariscal Francisco Solano López Airport (CIO) at Concepción, 160 km west, and Dr. Augusto R. Fuster Airport (PJC) at Pedro Juan Caballero, 55 km northeast.

San Lázaro is on Route 5 between Yby Yaú (40 km west) and Pedro Juan Caballero (55 km east). Buses on the Concepción–Pedro Juan Caballero route pass through.

The settlement is tiny and walkable. For onward travel, flag down passing buses on Route 5.
