Meteti

Darién, Panama

Why visit Meteti?

Metetí is a town and corregimiento in Pinogana District, Darién Province, with a population of about 7,976 as of the 2010 census — the largest town in the province. It grew up as a settlement along the Pan-American Highway during the highway's construction and is now the last major town on the Inter-American Highway before the road ends at Yaviza and the roadless Darién Gap begins. Most residents originally came from Chiriquí Province, and the local economy runs on subsistence farming, cattle ranching, and limited trade. For travelers, Metetí functions mainly as a transit hub and supply stop — basic amenities and services — rather than a destination with its own sights.
