Qatanna

Why visit Qatanna?

Qatanna is a Palestinian agricultural village in the Jerusalem Governorate, located 12 kilometers northwest of Jerusalem's Old City at an elevation of roughly 650 meters in the Judean Hills. Bordered by the villages of Biddu, Beit 'Anan, and Beit Surik, the settlement sits near the 1949 Green Line armistice boundary. The town has a population of approximately 7,000 residents.

The surrounding terrain consists of terraced hillsides planted with olive groves, fig trees, and vineyards. Local history traces back to antiquity; hilltop ruins at Khirbet Al-Kafira connect the site to biblical Chephirah, with archaeological remains from the Roman and Byzantine eras scattered across the slopes. Visitors come to experience rural life, explore hilltop viewpoints, and observe traditional olive harvesting.

The climate is Mediterranean, characterized by hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Summer daytime temperatures range from 28°C to 34°C, accompanied by dry winds. Winter brings standard temperatures between 7°C and 14°C, along with the majority of the annual precipitation (around 550 mm) between December and February.
