Thumrait
Z̧ufār, Oman
Why visit Thumrait?
Thumrait is a town in the Dhofar region of Oman, located about 90 km north of Salalah on the main highway to Muscat. It sits at the edge of the Dhofar Mountains, where the green khareef landscape gives way to the gravel plains of central Oman. Thumrait is best known for its former Royal Air Force airbase (now Omani) and as a service stop on the long drive between Muscat and Salalah. It has a small Omani culture museum.
The climate is hot year-round, with the khareef barely reaching this far north. The best time to pass through is October to March.
