Ikenne

Ikenne is a historic town in Ogun State, the headquarters of Ikenne local government area. It is most famous as the hometown of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Nigeria's nationalist leader and first premier of the Western Region. The Obafemi Awolowo Museum and Mausoleum in Ikenne is a pilgrimage site for admirers of the statesman. The town is an agricultural centre for cocoa, kola nut, and cassava. The annual Ikenne Day and the Ojude Oba festival are observed.

The nearest major airport is Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, about 80 km south-west.

By Car / Road

Ikenne is off the Lagos–Benin expressway, about 1.5 hours east of Lagos. Taxis run from Ijebu-Ode (25 min).
