About Ijebu-Ode

Ijebu-Ode is the historic capital of the Ijebu Kingdom, one of the most powerful pre-colonial Yoruba states. The city is home to the Ijebu Royal Palace, the Ijebu-Ode Museum, and the famous Imodi Shrine. Ijebu-Ode is known for the spectacular Ojude Oba festival — a colourful parade of Ijebu families on horseback during Eid — and the Ita-Olu-Ijoba (Ijebu Day) celebration. The city is a major commercial centre with a strong textile and trading tradition.

By Plane

The nearest major airport is Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) in Lagos, about 95 km south-west.

By Train

By Car / Road

Ijebu-Ode is on the Lagos–Benin expressway, about 1.5 hours east of Lagos. Buses from Lagos, Benin City, and other cities serve the city.

Keke and okada are the main transport.
