Dutsin-Ma

Dutsin-Ma is a town in central Katsina State, the headquarters of Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area, established in 1976. The name derives from a rock ("dutsi" in Hausa) at the heart of the town where, according to local tradition, a hunter named Ma once lived; people settled around the rock over time because of the water available there. Since 2011 the town has also been home to Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, one of nine federal universities established that year, which has grown into a campus of over 30,000 students.
