It sits along the Kaduna–Kafanchan road and is a centre for ginger production — Kachia is one of Nigeria's largest ginger-growing areas. The surrounding savannah landscape is dotted with inselbergs and small hills, and the population is ethnically diverse with Gbagyi, Hausa, and Fulani communities.

Kaduna International Airport (KAD) is about 90 km north.

By Train

The nearest railway station is in Kafanchan, 60 km east.

By Car / Road

Kachia is on the Kaduna–Kafanchan road, about 1.5 hours south of Kaduna. Buses from Kaduna and Kafanchan pass through.
