Emure-Ekiti

Ekiti, Nigeria

Why visit Emure-Ekiti?

Emure-Ekiti is the headquarters of Emure LGA in Ekiti State. Its ruling dynasty traces back to Oduduwa, the legendary Yoruba progenitor, through his son Okanbi and grandson Oranmiyan — a figure central to the founding of Ife, Oyo, and Benin. The kingdom itself was founded by Fagbamila Obadudu, a descendant of Oranmiyan, making Emure one of the sixteen traditionally crowned kingdoms of Ekiti; its monarch, the Elemure, is one of Ekiti's sixteen crowned Obas, with the kingship alternating between two royal houses descended from Fagbamila's sons. The town comprises four ancient quarters — Oke Emure, Odo Emure, Idamudu, and Ogbontioro — within an LGA that also includes Sasere, Owode, Owosi, Igboso, and several smaller settlements. It is a traditional Yoruba farming community.
