Why visit Sapele?

Sapele is a major port town in Delta State, situated on the Ethiope River, about 30 km from Warri. It was historically one of Nigeria's most important timber ports, exporting hardwood from the Niger Delta forests. The town is a centre of the Urhobo people and has a rich colonial history.

The climate is tropical with high rainfall. The dry season (November–March) is the best time to visit.

By Plane

The nearest airport is Osubi Airport (Warri), about 40 km west.

By Train

No passenger rail service.

By Car / Road

Sapele is on the East-West Road between Warri and Benin City. Buses from Warri (30 mins) and Benin City (1 hr) serve the town.

Tricycles and motorcycle taxis are the main local transport.
