Umudike is a suburb of Umuahia in Abia State, best known as the home of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, a major federal institution. The presence of the university gives the area an academic atmosphere with student-populated neighbourhoods and a cluster of hostels, eateries, and bookshops. Umudike also hosts the National Root Crops Research Institute. The surrounding farmlands produce yam, cassava, and cocoyam. It is essentially a college town.
