Uzuakoli is a town in Abia State, best known as the site of the Uzuakoli Leprosy Settlement, one of the oldest and most prominent treatment centres for leprosy in West Africa, established by British missionaries of the Methodist Church in the 1930s. The settlement operates a hospital, rehabilitation workshops, and a chapel. Surrounding the settlement is a quiet agricultural community of farmers growing yam and cassava. Uzuakoli also hosts the traditional Orie-Uzuakoli market day.
