By Car / Road
Ashburton is on State Highway 1, about a 50-minute drive south of Christchurch. Regular bus services connect Ashburton to Christchurch, Timaru, and Dunedin.
The town centre is walkable. A car is useful for exploring the wider district and the Ashburton Lakes area.
