Muktinath

Why visit Muktinath?

Muktinath is a sacred temple complex at 3,800 m in Mustang District, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. For Hindus, it is one of the holiest shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu, while Buddhists consider it a site where Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) meditated. The complex features a Vishnu temple, a Buddhist monastery, and 108 water spouts from which pilgrims bathe. The backdrop of the Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri, and Annapurna ranges is breathtaking.

The climate is cold and dry year-round. Winters (December–February) are bitterly cold with heavy snow. The best times to visit are May–October. The site is very exposed to wind.
