About Swakopmund

Swakopmund is Namibia's adventure capital and premier beach resort, with a population of approximately 45,000. Founded in 1892 as the main harbour for German South West Africa, the city retains a strong German colonial character evident in its well-preserved Wilhelminian architecture, with half-timbered buildings and a palm-lined main street. The city lies at the edge of the Namib Desert, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the dunes. It is the centre for adventure activities including sandboarding, skydiving, quad biking, and marine safaris.
