Why visit Demoso?

Demoso is a township in Kayah State, approximately 15 km southwest of Loikaw. It is a rural area of Karenni villages, rolling hills, and farmland. The Demoso area is home to several Kayan communities and offers a quieter alternative to the tourist villages near Loikaw.

The climate is mild compared to the lowlands due to the elevation. The best time to visit is November to February.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Loikaw Airport (LIW) is 20 km northeast, a 30-min drive.

By Car / Road

Demoso is 15 km southwest of Loikaw (20–30 min by shared pickup or taxi).

Motorcycle taxis are available. Most sights require a guide or local knowledge.

What are the things to do?

  • Kayan Villages: Several Kayan communities in the Demoso area are less touristy than those near Loikaw.
