Metangula
Niassa, Mozambique
Why visit Metangula?
Metangula is a small lakeshore town on the western shores of Lake Niassa (Lake Malawi), serving as the administrative centre for Niassa's Lake District. It is the gateway to the Manda Wilderness Project, a community-based conservation and tourism initiative that offers some of the most beautiful and untouched lakeshore experiences in Africa. The town itself is a quiet settlement with sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and views across the lake to the mountains of Malawi. It is an ideal base for travellers seeking relaxation, water activities, and cultural immersion in the Yao fishing communities.
