About Chinggis City

Chinggis City (also spelled Genghis City) is a newly designated urban centre in Hentiy Province, eastern Mongolia, established to honour the birthplace of Chinggis Khaan (Genghis Khan). The city is part of a development project to create a modern administrative and commercial hub in the Hentiy region, near the historical site of the great khan's birth. The area is deeply connected to Mongol history — the Onon River valley, just east, is believed by many historians to be the region where Temüjin was born in the 12th century.

The climate is continental with cold, dry winters (-20 to -30°C) and warm summers (20-25°C). Most precipitation falls in July and August. The best travel season is June through early September.

Chinggis City holds symbolic importance for Mongolia's national identity. While still developing infrastructure, it offers access to the wild and historically resonant landscapes of the Khentii Mountains, including the Onon and Kherlen river basins, areas rich in wildlife, forest, and nomadic herding culture.
