Dashbalbar

Dashbalbar is a small settlement (soum centre) in Dornod Province, eastern Mongolia, located in the easternmost part of the country near the Russian border. The name means "Stone Bar" in Mongolian. The area is classic eastern Mongolian steppe — vast, flat grassland with few trees and a big sky.

The climate is continental and dry: cold winters and warm summers. The best time to visit is June to August.

Dashbalbar is a remote frontier settlement with very basic infrastructure. It serves as a service centre for the surrounding herder population.

Unpaved roads connect Dashbalbar to Choibalsan and to the border area. A 4WD vehicle is essential. Roads are poor and weather-dependent.
